Servo drive communication protocol

Kollmorgen (Radford, VA) has announced the latest update to its AKD2G servo drives. The updated servo drive uses a new communication protocol to support easier integration with third-party controllers while delivering industry-leading performance. With the introduction of these new features, Kollmorgen expands its product range to include additional support for PROFINET IRT and Ethernet/IP via CIP synchronization and CANopen®Ethernet®, FSoE time synchronization communication protocol. Each protocol is rigorously tested on a variety of motion controllers and certified by industry standards organizations. The AKD2G servo drive update allows synchronized motion between multiple drives using a variety of control architectures. Due to its flexibility and high performance, the AKD2G is the ideal drive for applications requiring high-precision coordination across multiple axes of motion.

The drive offers industry-leading power density in a compact package and is easy to install – available in one- and two-axis models. Engineers can utilize Single Cable Smart Feedback Devices (SFD) or HIPERFACE® DSL connection or choose from a variety of other feedback devices.

Stereo vision solution

Teledyne FLIR IIS (Richmond, CA) announces Bumblebee® X Series – Advanced stereo vision solutions based on our best-in-class stereo vision product portfolio. The company launches new industrial stereo camera Bumblebee X and software Spinnaker® 3D offers comprehensive onboard handling solutions to build successful warehouse automation, robot guidance and logistics systems. Customers can use the wide baseline solution to test and deploy depth sensing systems with operating ranges up to 20 meters. Low latency makes it ideal for just-in-time applications such as autonomous mobile robots, automated guided vehicles, pick and place, case picking and palletizing. 3D inspection vision software

Pleora Technologies (Ottawa, Canada) is expanding its eBUS Edge GigE Vision software transmitter solution with a feature-based licensing tier to help designers address new 3D cameras, sensor-based imaging devices, and embedded and IoT product deployments performance and cost requirements. eBUS Edge converts imaging solutions and embedded devices into fully compatible GigE Vision and GenICam devices without investing in any additional hardware. By adding eBUS Edge to the CPU’s software stack, the device supports GigE Vision-compliant image transmission, can respond to control requests from the host PC, and integrate with off-the-shelf machine vision processing. For 3D inspection, eBUS Edge converts 3D images and data into GigE Vision and GenICam compliant timestamped data, which is transmitted along with associated metadata over low-latency Ethernet cabling. For embedded applications, eBUS Edge enables designers to develop small GigE Vision imaging and sensor devices that can be easily networked and integrated with machine vision processing solutions.

AC hypoid gear motor

Bodine Electric Company (Northfield, IL) has introduced 12 new AC inverter hyperbolic hollow shaft gear motors. These 42R-25H2 and 42R-30H3 gear motors combine a new AC inverter 230/460 VAC motor with two hypoid gearboxes. When used with AC inverter (VFD) control, these gearmotors provide maintenance-free, reliable high-torque output. They are ideal for conveyors, doors, packaging and other industrial automation equipment that require high torque and low power consumption from drive gear motors. These new AC hypoid gearmotors are designed as high-performance, energy-efficient alternatives to standard worm gear motors. Available in ratios from 5:1 to 240:1, these gears provide up to 2,328 lb-in (236 Nm) of continuous torque at speeds up to 340 rpm. The unique hypoid gearbox is permanently lubricated and features hardened steel gears for long life and quiet operation. The new 42R-25H2 (1-inch) and 42R-30H3 (1.25-inch) hollow shaft reduction motors optimize installation space, simplify installation, and reduce the number of parts required.

Linear voice coil servo motor

Moticont (Van Nuys, Calif.) linear servomotors combine high precision and high force in an easy-to-integrate package. GVM-095-051-01 linear voice coil servo motor, also known as moving coil motor, has high acceleration and deceleration, high speed, smooth movement even at very low speed, and has high precision, accuracy and Repeatability. This brushless servo motor has a stroke of 1.0 inches (25.4 mm) and weighs 23.5 pounds. (104.6 N) sustained force, achieving a high force-to-size ratio and 74.0 lbs. Peak force at 10% duty cycle (329.3 N). The bearing-guided, precision-ground diameter shaft is 1.78 inches (45.2 mm) long in the extended position. This shaft can handle 5 pounds of side load. (22 N) and has 4-40 UNC 2B × 0.38 deep threads for gap-free connection to the load.

The GVCM-095-051-01 motor is compact, with a diameter of 3.750 inches (95.3 mm) and a housing length of only 2.0 inches (63.5 mm). When the shaft is extended, the coil end extends 1.780 in. (45.2 mm) beyond the housing, and the housing and coil end each have two 10-32 UNF-2B threaded holes in the 1.00 in. (25.4 mm) bolt circle. for ease of installation.

Electric servo motor brake

Nexen Group, Inc. (Wardness Heights, Minn.) announces the launch of the Evolve™ electric servo motor brake, which provides zero backlash to full torque holding in a rigid, easy-to-install product. Evolve electric servo motor brake cables are spring-engaged and electrically released, with a double-sided friction interface design to increase torque capacity. Double row angular contact bearings provide overhung load capacity and stiffness, allowing machine builders and OEMs to design stronger machines. The brake can be easily configured to match the mating interface of the motor and gearbox. Evolve electric servo motor brakes have short lead times, minimizing downtime when designing and maintaining machines. “Based on numerous customer requests for Nexen electric servo motor brakes, we designed a brake with zero backlash for precise hold, low inertia, and a double-sided friction rotor that creates two friction interfaces for increased torque capacity, ” said Dave Hein, Vice President of Engineering.

Artificial intelligence driven car robot

ABB Robotics (Auburn Hills, MI) announced the launch of the first Flexley Tug T702 autonomous mobile robot, equipped with artificial intelligence-based visual SLAM navigation technology and new AMR Studio software, allowing first-time robot users to easily program and operate the entire mobile robot convoy. The new functionality simplifies configuration and reduces commissioning time by up to 20%, paving the way for workplaces where smart robots operate autonomously. Visual SLAM technology combines artificial intelligence and 3D vision to enable AMR to make intelligent decisions and distinguish fixed and moving objects in dynamic environments. Robots can create maps for independent operation, reduce commissioning time from weeks to days, and operate fully autonomously alongside humans in highly complex, dynamic environments. Maps are continuously updated and shared across the fleet, providing instant scalability without disrupting operations and greater flexibility than other navigation technologies.
