XGO-Rider is a 2-wheel self-balancing robot equipped with an ESP32 controller and a Raspberry Pi CM4 or BBC Micro:bit (crowdfunding)


XGO-Rider is a two-wheeled self-balancing robot equipped with an ESP32 controller for motor and servo control, USB-C charging, etc… and can choose a Raspberry Pi CM4 module or BBC Micro:bit board for display, Audio, and camera (CM4 only).

This isn’t Luwu Intelligence’s first robot, the company launched the XGO-Mini robot dog in 2021, followed by our review of the XGO 2 Raspberry Pi CM4-powered desktop robot dog with arms last year. The new XGO-Rider is based on these earlier models, but looks different, moving from a four-legged robot to a two-wheeled self-balancing robot design with many of the same features, including AI vision running on a Raspberry Pi CM4.

XGO-Rider Block Programming

The Raspberry Pi CM4 version of the robot supports programming using Python, Blockly and ROS, and can run various AI computer vision workloads, such as gesture recognition, face detection, skeleton recognition, etc., and ChatGPT. micro:bit XGO-Rider was developed in partnership with ELECFREAKS to support MakeCode/microblock A visual programming IDE especially suitable for children’s STEM education.

The company pointed to its GitHub account for more details, but so far I haven’t seen anything concrete about the new XGO-Rider. Luwu Wisdom launched the XGO-Rider self-balancing robot on Kickstarter, and its funding goal of HK$80,000 (US$10,850) has been reached. The micro:bit XGO-Rider starts at about $250 with “Super Early Bird” incentives, and the CM4-powered XGO-Rider starts at about $300. Shipping costs to China have increased from $10 to $40 to most parts of the world, and if all goes according to plan, backers should expect their boons to be shipped in August.
