At AUTOMATE 2023, Siemens launched its latest servo products to the North American manufacturing industry. With the new SINAMICS S200 servo system consisting of SINAMICS S200 drives and SIMOTICS S-1FL2 motors with standard or flexible cable options, Siemens brings a new level of motion control to the stand-alone and networked machine markets.

This new servo kit extends the SINAMICS drives and offers a wide range of application possibilities for the standard servo market. The pulse sequence version allows a variety of installed machines to easily integrate additional positioning axes using the onboard positioner. At the same time, the dynamic networking function of motion control, the SIMATIC PLC, extends its system functionality in the PROFINET version. 1FL2 permanent magnet motors with 17-bit or 21-bit encoders are available in power ranges up to 7kW and include low, medium and high inertia products, scalable performance and to meet the widest range of standard servo requirements.

An electronic nameplate on the 1FL2 motor and one-touch tuning in the S200 drive ensure easy setup. Integrated brake resistors and integrated holding brake control increase the functionality of the S200 servo drive. The S200 and IP65 motors feature metal connection solutions and are designed with coated circuit boards (3C2) for high durability. Built-in undervoltage protection is also provided.

For machine builders or machine users’ system engineering, an embedded Web server or Startdrive software integrated into the Siemens TIA Portal can be provided to meet user needs. Through common standards and certified compliance, the SINAMICS S200 drive system can be easily implemented on machines used worldwide.

SINAMICS S200 is included in the SINAMICS DriveSim Basic model, which enables the user to create a digital twin of the drive and PLC communication during the project planning phase to ensure the correct dimensioning and operation of the equipment used.

In the field of network security, SINAMICS S200 for network connections has integrated security as standard, providing enhanced communication, integrity and authenticity checks to prevent parameter tampering. In addition, the drives also provide user management and control within the TIA Portal. Access Control (UMAC).

Applications for the new SINAMICS S200 drive system range from the emerging battery market and other E-OEM sectors to packaging, woodworking machinery, solar wafer production, etc.
