Launched Chrosziel full servo drive unit for FUJINON Premista lenses

Chrosziel announces the launch of a fully servo drive unit for the FUJINON Premista zoom cine lens. The unit works with all three lenses and provides three motors with zoom rockers, as well as all the connectors needed for remote operation, ENG and EB work.

In case you missed it, the FUJINON Premista is a series of three cine zoom lenses for large-sensor cameras. Japanese company FUJIFILM released the Premista 28-100mm T2.9 and 80-250mm T2.9-3.5 lenses for the first time at NAB 2019.

German camera accessory manufacturer Chrosziel, based near Munich, has created servo zoom control kits for other lenses such as past FUJINON MK zooms. Recently, Chrosziel announced the launch of a new full-servo drive unit for the FUJINON Premista cine zoom lens. Let’s take a brief look.

Since all three lenses in the Premista series have the same ring gear position, Chrosziel’s new servo drive unit can be used with all three lenses. The unit combines all components in one housing to provide a “broadcast” (remote operation, ENG and EB work) workflow for these large format cinema zoom lenses.

The unit houses three internal compact motors with 0.8 gears that provide enough torque to operate the ring gears of the Premista cine lenses. Chrosziel also equips each motor with an engage/disengage mechanism to allow the lens gears to run freely when needed. Motor positions are stored to ensure quick start-up after lens changes or power outages. There is a visible zoom rocker on the top of the device.

The device has a mini USB port for software updates. Power is provided via Lemo 12-30V DC connector @ 3A. It processes the metadata (Cooke/i-data) provided by the lens and transmits it into a broadcast-compatible data format. Chrosziel servo drive units have the following connectors (all located on the bottom):

  • Power: Remo 0B.305
  • Lens connector port: 12-pin Hirose reverse – Provides interfaces with common functions, such as motor position feedback, VTR signal, analog aperture signal, serial TTL interface, etc.
  • Focus-Demand 12-pin Hirose socket (FUJINON standard – pin assignment)
  • Zoom-Demand 12-pin Hirose socket (FUJINON standard – pin assignment)
  • Fujinon remote socket (Hirose 20-pin)
