Device snapshot: Beckhoff Automation will showcase its new AMP8000 distributed servo drive system and a complete lineup of automation hardware, software and network solutions at Pack Expo 2018 in Chicago. Beckhoff will be demonstrating packaging machine control systems that power today’s smart factories during the show at Booth S-3183 in the South Building of McCormick Place, which is expected to attract visitors from more than 40 vertical markets starting October 14 50,000 global attendees 2018-17.

Beckhoff’s AMP8000 decentralized servo drive system promotes an advanced motion control architecture that is cost-effective, efficient and easy to adjust by significantly reducing electronic, mechanical hardware and wiring. By combining servo drives and servo motors into one device, the AMP8000 system reduces the overall footprint of the packaging machine and the space requirements within the control cabinet and enclosure. A single coupling module can operate up to five drives using an EtherCAT P single-cable automation solution that provides industrial-grade power and EtherCAT Industrial Ethernet communications.

Requiring no modifications to existing machines, the AMP8000 is available in F4 flange sizes with power ratings from 0.61 to 1.23 kW and static torque ratings from 2.00 to 4.8 Nm, while in flange sizes 1.02 to 1.78 kW with power ratings from 1.02 to 1.78 kW, Rated static torque is 4.10 to 9.7 Nm. This servo drive system also represents Beckhoff’s commitment to promoting safety technology in all areas through the integration of STO and SS1 safety functions.

In order to supply the entire smart factory, Beckhoff will display a variety of automation and control solutions that support the Internet of Things at Pack Expo. To expand the field of time-sensitive networking (TSN), Beckhoff will also introduce the EK1000 EtherCAT TSN coupler to Pack Expo attendees. EK1000 extends the industrial network interoperability of Beckhoff EtherCAT I/O systems to include TSN, which is now added to other connectivity and IoT standards such as OPC UA, multiple Industrial Ethernet protocols and all traditional field busbar. This makes it easier to migrate to new vertical and horizontal communication systems and allows for easy IoT and cloud retrofits of industrial systems already on site.

The C6015, C6017 and C6030 IPCs represent the latest generation of Beckhoff Industrial PCs (IPCs), certified for Microsoft Azure and capable of working with Amazon Web Services (AWS), SAP HANA and other major cloud services. The first product in this series, C6015, uses Intel Atom processors (up to four cores), and the newer C6030 uses Intel Core i-series processors 6th and 7th generation. The latest product in the series, the C6017, offers the same Intel Atom processor as the C6015, but adds two RJ45 interfaces and two additional USB 2.0 ports. The C6017 also offers an optional capacitive 1 second UPS. These three IPCs are ideally suited for all IoT, machine control, cloud connectivity and edge device requirements in manufacturing.

The TwinCAT software update adds a number of important tools for packaging machinery manufacturers and end users, including expanded data processing for industrial displays and mobile devices through TwinCAT Analytics and TwinCAT HMI with HTML5 support. In addition, TwinCAT Motion Designer provides additional tools to debug entire motors, drives and mechanical systems in software, whether integrated into the TwinCAT 3 platform or used as a stand-alone motion system engineering tool.

“The packaging industry strives to support a range of manufacturers in the food, beverage and other consumer goods markets, so companies need to know that their automation and control systems are both reliable and innovative,” said Aurelio Banda, CEO and President of Beckhoff Automation LLC. “As North America’s premier packaging trade show, Pack Expo is the perfect place for Beckhoff to showcase the best solutions in hardware, software and industrial networking to the entire packaging community. AMP8000 space-saving, efficient motion control, IoT and cloud-ready IPC, coupled with the EK1000’s EtherCAT and TSN capabilities, are compelling new solutions that can quickly transform packaging and production operations of any size into today’s smart factories.
